What do You Know about Weighing Indicator?

August 17,2022

A weighing indicator is an instrument in an electronic weighing instrument that displays the mass and weighing status of the object being weighed.

The weighing indicator was originally an analog indicating type, which consists of an error amplifier, a reversible motor, a balance bridge, an excitation power supply, a dial, and a pointer, and works according to the principle of an automatic balance electronic potentiometer. It has a slow weighing speed, single function, and low accuracy, and has been eliminated. The current weighing indicator is a digital display type.

The structural principle of weighing indicator

There are many varieties of digital display weighing control displays (referred to as digital displays). What the digital display accepts and processes is the electrical signal output by the load cell. There are analog and digital electrical signals, and the most common is an analog voltage of several to tens of millivolts. In the circuit principle of the digital display, the excitation power supply supplies the working power of the load cell, and at the same time supplies the reference voltage of the A/D (analog/digital) conversion unit, and its stability is generally above 0.1%.

The amplifying unit usually adopts a measuring amplifier structure to receive and amplify the signal of the load cell. The magnification is generally several hundred times. The filter unit filters out the electrical noise mixed in from outside the machine and generated by the amplifier itself. The A/D conversion unit converts the analog quantity into a digital quantity, and the conversion digits usually take more than 14 binary digits.

The data processing unit takes the microprocessor as the core and is composed of peripheral support chips. It completes a series of operations such as data collection, calculation, and storage under the control of the program, and the processing results are sent to the corresponding interface. The display unit displays the weighing value and weighing status in the form of numbers, characters, or graphs, and can communicate with external equipment through the interface.

Accuracy class of weighing indicator

The International Organization for Legal Metrology (OIML) Recommendation No. 3 stipulates that non-automatic weighing instruments are divided into 4 grades according to the level of accuracy. According to the level of the weighing instrument, China also divides the weighing indicator into 4 grades and assigns the corresponding grade code to the weighing instrument: Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ. The maximum allowable measurement error of each level of weighing indicator is 0.5 times the allowable error of the corresponding level of the weighing instrument.

The weighing indicator, load cell, and weighing platform are the three major components of an electronic weighing instrument. The main function of the weighing instrument is to measure the weight of the object to be weighed on the weighing platform by measuring the signal change of the weighing sensor and displaying it in digital form. With the development of measurement technology and IT technology, the performance and function of weighing instruments have also been continuously developed. Weighing instruments are not only used to display weight but are also widely used in automatic control and data processing.
